The internet basically made me buy a palette from Juvia’s Place. I kept scrolling through Instagram seeing all of these electrifying looks from amazing beauty experts raving about Juvia’s Place. Every single palette has a gorgeous array of colors suiting all skin tones. Luckily for us all, their products are SUPER affordable, cruelty free, and black owned–so buy one, buy ’em all! *Add to Cart*
I don’t typically wear colors; I stick to neutrals. If I’m feeling fancy, I’ll add a gold glitter for a bit of razzle dazzle but I wanted to try something new, so I ordered the Nubian 2 Palette.
My thoughts about the palette, you ask? Based on how I wear makeup and what I look for in makeup, overall, I like it. Peep the pros and cons below:
PROS
I really dig the packaging. Beautiful African empresses grace the cover of each palette. When I received my package in the mail, my palette was well packed and arrived without damage. Presentation is a big deal. The packaging is also brightly colored instead of black or brown like other brands.
I love how pigmented the shadows are. You get a lot of color payoff! Once the powders set, they become more vibrant and have a creamy-velvet appearance. The colors are richly unique and actually show up vividly on my skin (major key). I always get compliments on my eyes when I use the Nubian 2 Palette which makes it $30 bucks well spent.
Speaking of $30 bucks, that’s another maaaaajor pro! Because I don’t usually wear bold colors, it’s easy to try something new at this price point. Most higher end palettes START at $42 and increase exponentially from there. You receive a good amount of product for the price too. The pans are large and hold 1.58 grams per color. There’s usually a sale going on or discount code floating around the web, so definitely check with their social media to save some money!
CONS
To get the most out of the palette, it’s best that you prime your eyes. I don’t prime my eyes nor face because I don’t like the feeling of heavy makeup. I like my makeup to feel like skin. Unless you prime your eyelids, your makeup is prone to shifting and creasing as the day progresses–no work straight to happy hour for you! I wasn’t going to invest in a primer just to use these shadows so I simply used a light wash of LA girl concealer in the color Warm Honey all over my lid. I use this color to define my lower eyebrows anyway so a few more drops of product a bit lower didn’t kill me.
I also dislike the amount of fallout I get. Perhaps I’m not using the proper brush for application? I use the Elf C eyeshadow brush to apply. I did find that I didn’t have that problem when I applied using my fingers… but that was an accidental discovery. I do not plan on regularly Flinestoning my makeup routine. Whenever I use the Nubian 2 Palette, I use shadow on my lash line. It looks fabulous, yes, but I didn’t really have a choice. Cleaning off the fallout is more of a to-do than blending it in.
Finally, I wish that the palette had all the colors you need for a look. I have to supplement my Morphe 35O palette for transition colors that my Juvia’s Place palette lacks. When traveling, I don’t want to have to lug two palettes out of town JUST to do my eyes. (Anyone that knows me knows that I will–I just don’t want to, haha!)
Overall, if you’re new to color, new to makeup, or just frugal like me, definitely give Juvia’s Place a go. You will have lots of fun creating avant garde looks fit for African royalty. Here is another look using the Nubian 2 Palette:
I think I’ll grab the Masquerade Palette next!

Thank you so much, Mia! I totally don’t use Pinterest—I don’t “get” it. I have an account but I honestly have no idea how it works. Crash course?!?

*post idea inspiration strikes*. Really quick breakdown, you make boards based on different interests (and things your blog is about) so maybe for you:
blog board (just things pinned from your blog)
blogging board (you can pin tips and tricks posts, advice posts, good tools and websites etc)
makeup (inspiring makeup looks, makeup reviews, palettes you want)
skincare (because your skin damn well glows i KNOW you have some good skincare)
healthy eating & recipes
wishlist (pin shit you like on the internet)
style (ootds you post, instagram photos, inspiring outfits)
basically pinterest acts like a visual search engine; people “pin” images that inspire them or links to relevant boards so they can save them. You follow people with similar interests so their pins come up (so say you follow a food blogger, recipe posts will pop up on your feed) AND pins based on your interests will pop up too (not from people you follow). It’s a great chance to get your content in front of people for free.
So for example, you could pin your parfait post and people interested in food may be suggested it every once in a while.
Okay, I apologise this comment is REALLY long….x

Oh my god, I’m obsessed with how you do your makeup! The first look is defintely my favorite. I wish I could be daring enough to wear blue eyeshadow! I usually stray away from bright colors too. Hopefully one day I can be daring! ♥️

I am certainly going to give Juvia’s Place more of my hard earned money. I’ve been slowly dabbing my brushes into the colors more often… taking a walk on the wild side, hehe…
